25 Years Ago in the Nineties: Aerosmith “Janie’s Got A Gun”
After scoring six Top 40 singles, including two Top 10 hits, on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in the mid- to late 1970s, Boston-based band Aerosmith largely fell off the popular music scene in the early to mid-1980s. Building off the Top 5 success of Run-D.M.C.’s 1986 remake of their classic “Walk This Way,” which featured Aerosmith members Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, the band made a big return. Starting with “Dude (Looks Like A Lady)” in Fall 1987, Aerosmith hit the Top 40 with 11 straight charting singles over a nearly seven-year run. In the middle of that run, as the 1980s gave way to the 1990s, Aerosmith’s “Janie’s Got A Gun” stood near the top of the Hot 100, and exactly 25 years ago, “Janie’s Got A Gun” reached a peak position of number 4, where it would spend one week.
