25 Years Ago in the Nineties: Bette Midler “From A Distance”
Honolulu-born singer Bette Midler has reached the Top 10 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart four times, first with “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” which hit number 8 in 1973; then with “The Rose,” which (pun intended) rose to number 3 in 1980; and then most successfully with “Wind Beneath My Wings,” which spent one week at number one in 1989. Midler’s last of her four Top 10 hits came in late 1990, when “From A Distance” peaked at number two. Exactly 25 years ago, “From A Distance” climbed to that peak position for a one-week stay.
