25 Years Ago in the Nineties: James Ingram “I Don’t Have The Heart”
During the 1980s, all six of Akron, Ohio-born singer James Ingram‘s Top 20 hits on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart had been duets or trios, with Ingram featured alongside such artists as Quincy Jones, Patti Austin, Michael McDonald, Kenny Rogers, Kim Carnes, an Lind Ronstadt. In the fall of 1990, though, Ingram scored his first and only Top 20 hit as a solo artist with “I Don’t Have The Heart,” the fourth single from his It’s Real album. While none of the album’s previous three singles reached the Hot 100, “I Don’t Have The Heart” rose all the way to number one. Exactly 25 years ago, “I Don’t Have The Heart” made the final step of that ascension for a one-week reign at the top.
