25 Years Ago in the Nineties: Madonna “Oh Father”

After reaching phenomenal success in the 1980s, Madonna continued her domination of popular music in the next decade, becoming one of the most successful artists of the 1990s as well. However, the 1990s started off a bit inauspiciously for Madonna.

Upon the late-1989 release of “Oh Father,” the fourth single from her Like A Prayer album, Madonna had hit the Top 20 with all 18 of her singles that had appeared on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, and she had reached the Top 10 seventeen consecutive times. While “Oh Father” maintained the streak of Top 20 singles, when it peaked at number 20 exactly 25 years ago, it broke Madonna’s string of Top 10 hits.
