25 Years Ago In The Nineties: Michael Bolton “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You”
After he built a successful career as a songwriter, in the late 1980s Michael Bolton‘s singing career took off as well. He scored three Top 20 hits between 1987 and 1989, and then just a few weeks into the 1990s, Bolton earned his first number one single on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. Exactly 25 years ago, Bolton’s “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You” rose to the number one spot, where it would spend three weeks. The song was a remake of a song he co-wrote that Laura Branigan originally recorded and took to number 12 in 1983.
For Bolton, “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You” was the first of his two chart-topping singles, with his remake of Percy Sledge’s “When A Man Loves A Woman” spending one week at number one in 1991. “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You” also marked the first of seven Top 10 hits Bolton has enjoyed, all in the early 1990s.
