New Jersey-based band Surface appeared on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart six times, all between 1987 and 1991, with four of those singles reaching the Top 40. Exactly 25 years ago, Surface scored the biggest hit of their career when “The First Time” rose to number one for a two-week reign.
