Meridian, Mississippi-born singer/songwriter Paul Davis reached the Top 40 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart eight times in his career. The last three of those Top 40 hits (and his last three appearances on the chart altogether) came from his 1981 album Cool Night. On this date in 1982, the first of those three singles — the album’s title track — climbed to a peak position of number 11, where it would spend two weeks.
