Many R.E.M. fans don’t base their sense of the band’s success on chart performance, but over their career, the Athens, Georgia-based act hit the Top 40 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart nine times, with four of those singles reaching the Top 10. Their biggest hit was “Losing My Religion,” their first single from their Out of Time album. Exactly 25 years ago, “Losing My Religion” climbed to a peak position of number 4, where it would spend one week.
