New York City-based trio Fat Boys hit the Top 20 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart twice in the late 1980s with remakes of 1960s classics that also featured artists from that time period. After reaching number 12 in 1987 alongside the Beach Boys with “Wipeout,” Fat Boys teamed up with Chubby Checker in 1988 for a remake of the song he made famous, “The Twist.” On this date that year, their version of the song climbed to a peak position of number 16.
