It’s not easy to choose which of Madonna‘s hits from the 1980s constitutes her most notable one. There’s certainly a strong case for her first number one single, “Like a Virgin.” Her seventh chart topper, “Like a Prayer,” also warrant discussion. Exactly in the middle of those two, her fourth number one single, “Papa Don’t Preach,” also deserves to be part of that conversation. Exactly 30 years ago, “Papa Don’t Preach” climbed to the top of Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart for a two-week reign.
