California-based vocal group The Sandpipers appeared on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart four times over a four-year period between 1966 and 1970. Three of those songs hit the Top 40, with one song — their first charting single, “Guantanamera” — reaching the Top 10. Exactly 50 years ago, “Guantanamera” climbed to a peak position of number 9.
