Between November 1981 and January 1982, New York City-based band Foreigner‘s song “Waiting for a Girl Like You” set a record by spending ten weeks at number 2 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart without climbing to number one — a record that has been equaled only by Missy Elliott’s “Work It” in 2002-2003. Exactly 35 years ago, “Waiting for a Girl Like You” climbed to number two to begin its record stay.
