DEF: Al Jarreau “Never Givin’ Up”
Milwaukee-born singer Al Jarreau passed away this past weekend at the age of 76. Jarreau is known for his decades-long career as a jazz singer who at times crossed over to the R&B and Hot 100 charts. All of Jarreau’s success on the Hot 100 came during the 1980s, when he made eight appearances, with three of those songs reaching the Top 40. Al Jarreau released seven albums during the 1980s, and in memory of him, today’s Daily Eighties Flashback is the first song from his first album from the decade, “Never Givin’ Up,” which hit the Top 40 on the R&B chart, but just missed the Hot 100, bubbling under to number 102 in 1980.
