It Happened 50 Years Ago: Jeannie C. Riley “Harper Valley P.T.A.”
Texas-born singer Jeannie C. Riley made five appearances on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, all between 1968 and 1971. Her biggest hit was “Harper Valley P.T.A.,” which was her first song to appear on the chart and her only Top 40 hit. Exactly 50 years ago, “Harper Valley P.T.A.” rose to number one for a one-week run at the top of the chart.
