It Happened 50 Years Ago: Diana Ross & The Supremes “Love Child”
After The Supremes hit number one on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart ten times from 1964 to 1967, in 1967 Motown Records decided to highlight Diana Ross in the group’s name. As Diana Ross & The Supremes, the trio would go on to reach the top of the chart two more times before Ross left for a solo career in 1969. Exactly 50 years ago, the first of those two chart-topping songs, “Love Child,” rose to number one for a two-week reign.
