Over the course of more than two decades, Marvin Gaye made fifty-six appearances on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. Forty of those songs reached the Top 40, and eighteen hit the Top 10. Gaye’s biggest hit was the first of his three chart-topping hits, “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” Exactly 50 years ago, “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” rose to number one to begin a seven-week reign.
