25 Years Ago in the Nineties: 10,000 Maniacs “Because the Night”
New York-based band 10,000 Maniacs made eight appearances on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. The group’s biggest hit was the first of their two Top 40 hits, a cover of Patti Smith’s “Because the Night” they performed on MTV’s Unplugged. Exactly 25 years ago, 10,000 Maniacs’ version of “Because the Night” climbed to a peak position of number 11.
