The Power of Love

25 years ago today, Huey Lewis and the News hit the top of the Hot 100 chart for the first time, as “The Power of Love” ascended to number 1.  As many of us fondly remember, the song came from the summer blockbuster film Back to the Future, which would become the top grossing film of 1985.  The extended version of the music video, as seen above, featured Christopher Lloyd reprising his role of Dr. Emmett Brown from the film.

For Huey and the boys, “The Power of Love” was their first of three chart-topping singles.  (Can you name the other two?)  It also continued their run of Top 40, Top 20, and Top 10 hits.  From 1983 to 1988, 13 consecutive singles from the band hit the Top 40, with all but one hitting the top 20 and all but two hitting the Top 10.
