Paul Robeson
Today marks 35 years since Paul Robeson passed away. While many people today don’t know much about Robeson, in the first half of the 20th century, he became very well known, first as a star collegiate athlete, then as a singer and actor. In the clip above you can hear his deep voice singing “Ol’ Man River” from the 1936 film Showboat. For more on Robeson, check out this website, which was established to commemorate what would have been Robeson’s 100th birthday back in 1998.
