Don McLean made nine appearances on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, with six of those songs reaching the Top 40 and two hitting the Top 10. His biggest hit was his first hit and his only number one hit, “American Pie (Parts I & II),” which exactly 50 years ago climbed to the top of the chart for a four-week reign.
