Fallin’ for Alicia Keys for 10 years
In 2001, Alicia Keys burst onto the popular music scene with her debut album, Songs in A Minor, which would go on to sell over 6 million copies in the U.S. and over 12 million copies worldwide. The first single off that album–and the first of her career–“Fallin'” would go all the way to the top of the charts, peaking at number 1 exactly 10 years ago today. The song would spend a total of six weeks at the top over two separate runs, as it played a game of back and forth with Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule’s “I’m Real.” First, “Fallin'” spent three weeks at the top, then “I’m Real” followed at number 1 for three weeks. “Fallin'” then recaptured the number 1 spot for an additional three weeks before “I’m Real” displaced it once again for its own additional two-week run. Finally, Mary J. Blige put an end to the game by capturing the top spot with “Family Affair” on November 3.
Of course, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Lopez share more than their 2001 chart-topping success. Like Lopez, Keys has crossed over into acting as well.  Keys has gone on to a supporting role in The Nanny Diaries along with feature roles in Smokin’ Aces and The Secret Life of Bees. Of course, Keys’ acting career actually began when she was around four years old, on a 1985 episode of The Cosby Show.
