Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now

More than a decade before she was Samantha Jones on Sex in the City, Kim Cattrall came to life as a mannequin in the 1987 film Mannequin, in which she starred alongside Andrew McCarthy.  The soundtrack to Mannequin spawned a number one hit in Starship’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” which rose to the top for a two-week run exactly 25 years ago yesterday.  The song also appeared on Starship’s No Protection album, and it marked the band’s third number one single, following 1985’s “We Built This City” and “Sara” from Knee Deep in the Hoopla.

Some other notable facts about “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”:  It was nominated for an Academy Award, and it marked the very first number one hit for Diane Warren, who co-wrote it and would go on to become one of the most successful songwriters in pop music history.
