Heat Of The Moment
In 1981 progressive rock musicians John Wetton, Steve Howe, Geoff Downes, and Carl Palmer came together to form the rock supergroup Asia, which debuted its first album, Asia, in 1982. The first single off that album would also be the band’s biggest hit, as “Heat Of The Moment” climbed to number four on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart exactly 30 years ago today.
The band would hit the top 40 three more times between 1982 and 1983, and though they’ve been putting out music in various lineup incarnations ever since, they never again quite enjoyed the commercial success of their early releases. Currently, the original members are set to release a new album, XXX, on July 3 and will be touring in Japan, the US, and the UK this fall.
Meanwhile, “The Heat Of The Moment” would go on to be one of the 1980s’ more memorable hits, made all the more “timeless” when it featured prominently in Episode 13 of Season 5 of South Park.
