Jack & Diane

Since his first Top 40 hit with “I Need A Lover” in 1979, John Mellencamp (a.k.a. John Cougar and John Cougar Mellencamp) has had numerous additional top 40 singles, including a total of 10 Top 10 hits.  None of these hits were as big, though, as “Jack & Diane,” which peaked at number 1 for the first week of a four-week stay exactly 30 years ago today.

It’s been nearly two decades since Mellencamp last visited the Top 10, when his cover of Van Morrison’s “Wild Night” with Michelle Ndegeocello peaked at number 3 at 1994.  Still, the 60-year-old Mellencamp continues to make and perform music.   For more, check out his official website.
