I Can See Clearly Now
Exactly 40 years ago, Houston-born singer/songwriter Johnny Nash hit number 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart with “I Can See Clearly Now.” The song would spend four weeks atop the Hot 100.
Nash originally hit the Top 40 a couple of times in the late 1950s, and then, after nearly a decade away, scored his first top 5 hit with “Hold Me Tight” in 1968. That song initiated the most successful period of his career, culminating in 1972’s “I Can See Clearly Now” as his only chart-topper, followed by hitting number 12 with “Stir It Up” in early 1973.
