Up Where We Belong

Exactly 30 years ago, one of the 1980s’ most notable love ballad duets rose to number one on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, as Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes climbed into the top spot with “Up Where We Belong.”  The song, from the film An Officer and a Gentleman, would spend three weeks at the top, and it marked the only number one hit of Cocker’s illustrious career.  Warnes, on the other hand, would return again to number one just over five years later with another famous love ballad duet from a film … but Tunesmate more on that in three weeks …
