Mickey
In the realm of biggest one-hit wonders, Toni Basil ranks, at least in terms of her singing career, on the short list. Exactly 30 years ago, Basil topped Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart with her dance hit “Mickey.” It was the only Top 40 hit for Basil, though she would hit number 77 in 1983 with “Shoppin’ From A to Z” and number 81 in 1984 with “Over My Head.”
The song’s popularity was propelled by its video, which featured cheerleading choreographed by Basil herself, and as a film choreographer Basil has had sustained success dating back to the 1970s. For more on Basil, check out her official authorized website.
