Karma Chameleon

Exactly 30 years ago, British band Culture Club sat atop Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart for a third straight week with “Karma Chameleon.”  The song marked the pinnacle of a highly successful run for the band led by Boy George.  Between late 1982/early 1983 and the middle of 1986, Culture Club hit the Hot 100 ten times, and all ten singles hit the Top 40.  Of those ten singles, nine hit the Top 20, and six of them — the band’s first six Hot 100 singles — hit the Top 10.

Culture Club began that run with two songs that peaked at number 2, as “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me” and “Time (Clock Of The Heart)” each rose to that peak position in 1983.  When “Karma Chameleon” reached number 1 in February 1984, it marked the band’s first and only time at the top of the Hot 100.
