30 Years of Madonna in the Top 10
In 2008 Madonna broke the record previously held by Elvis Presley for most Top 10 hits in a career, when her duet with Justin Timberlake, “4 Minutes,” went to number 3 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. That marked the 37th Top 10 hit of Madonna’s career, and she tacked on a 38th in 2012 with “Give Me All Your Luvin.”
That feat was nearly three decades in the making, and exactly 30 years ago Madonna’s first Top 10 hit, “Borderline,” slipped into the Top 10 for a one-week run at a peak position of number 10. Madonna’s next 16 singles would all also hit the Top 10, for a streak of 17 straight Top 10 hits that would be broken when “Oh Father” peaked at number 20 in 1990.
