DEF: Soft Cell “Tainted Love”
British band Soft Cell hit Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart just once, but it was a memorable appearance. That one song, “Tainted Love,” generally makes short lists of most memorable songs from the 1980s. That’s for good reason, too. In 1982, “Tainted Love” set a record for most consecutive weeks on the Hot 100 with 43. That record held until changes in chart methodology led to a lot more longevity for charting singles.
On this date in 1982, “Tainted Love” hit its peak position of number 8, where it would spend two weeks. Today, “Tainted Loved” is the Daily Eighties Flashback.
