DEF: The Oak Ridge Boys “Elvira”
Between 1977 and 1989, Tennessee-based band the Oak Ridge Boys scored 17 number one hits on the country chart. Â In the early 1980s, a few of those songs crossed over to Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, where the band’s biggest success came with the song “Elvira.” Â On this date in 1981, “Elvira” reached its peak position of number 5, where it would spend four weeks.
