DEF: The B-52’s “Love Shack”
In the early 1980s, Athens, Georgia-based band The B-52’s placed a few singles on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, perhaps most notably “Rock Lobster” in 1980, though they never hit the Top 40. That changed in 1989, when the band’s single “Love Shack” not only hit the Top 40, but rose all the way to number 3. “Love Shack” was the first of two straight singles to hit number 3 for The B-52’s, with its successor, “Roam,” reaching the position in early 1990. The B-52’s would go on to hit the Top 40 with three more singles after that, all in the early 1990s.
Exactly 25 years ago, “Love Shack” reached its peak position, where it would spend two weeks. Today, the B-52’s biggest hit is the Daily Eighties Flashback.
