London-born singer Marianne Faithfull appeared on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart five times, with all of those appearances occurring in between late 1964 and late 1965. Among those five singles, the first four reached the Top 40, and exactly 50 years ago, Faithfull’s very first charting single, “As Tears Go By,” reached its peak position of number 22, where it would spend one week. In addition to being Faithfull’s first charting single, “As Tears Go By” also remains her highest charting single.
