25 Years Ago in the Nineties: Rod Stewart “Downtown Train”
After tremendous success in popular music throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Rod Stewart continued his run by adding ten more Top 40 hits on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in the 1990s, including six singles that reached the Top 10. Stewart, who turns 70 in a few days, began the 1990s by hovering near the top of the chart, as his remake of Tom Waits’ “Downtown Train” was in the top 20 in the very first chart of the decade, working its way into the Top 5. Exactly 25 years ago, Stewart’s “Downtown Train” was in the midst of a three-week run at a peak position of number 3.
