Houston, Texas-born singer Jewel Akens reached Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart just twice. The second appearance came with “Georgie Porgie,” which peaked at number 68 in May 1965. Akens’ first appearance, though, fared far better, as exactly 50 years ago, “The Birds And The Bees” reached a peak position of number 3, where it would spend two weeks.
