25 Years Ago in the Nineties: Elton John “Sacrifice”
In terms of chart performance on Billboard‘s Hot 100, Elton John is among the Top 10 artists in each of three decades: the 1970s, the 1980s, and the 1990s. His success in the 1990s included 12 Top 40 hits, the biggest of which was “Candle In The Wind 1997,” a tribute to Princess Diana that spent 14 weeks at number one. John’s first Hot 100 hit of the 1990s was also his first Top 40 hit of the decade, and 25 years ago, that song – “Sacrifice” — was rising to a peak position of number 18, where it would spend one week.
