DEF: Phil Seymour “Precious To Me”
This past week, the last film in “The Hobbit” series, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, was released on DVD, marking an end to Peter Jackson’s cinematic interpretations of the J.R.R. Tolkien book. Among other things, The Hobbit and its successors, the books that constitute The Lords of the Rings trilogy, are known for their use of the word “precious,” particularly as the character Gollum uses the word.
Interestingly, the timing of the DVD release of that film coincides with the anniversary week of the peaking of a song built on the same word. On this date in 1981, Tulsa, Oklahoma-born musician Phil Seymour reached a peak position of number 22 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart with “Precious To Me.” The song, which was Seymour’s only single ever to reach the Hot 100 chart, would spend two weeks at its peak position.
Phil Seymour’s “Precious To Me” is today’s Daily Eighties Flashback.
