Percy Sledge 1940-2015
Alabama-born singer Percy Sledge passed away Tuesday at the age of 74. Sledge is most known for his first charting single, “When A Man Loves A Woman,” which spent two weeks at number one on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in 1966. “When A Man Loves A Woman” was Sledge’s only Top 10 hit, though he did hit the Top 40 four more times. The last of those Top 40 hits was “Take Time To Know Her,” which reached number 11 in 1968.
