DEF: Johnny Kemp “Just Another Lover”

Nassau, Bahamas-born singer Johnny Kemp passed away at the age of 55 this weekend in Jamaica. Kemp is most known for his song “Just Got Paid,” which reached number 10 in 1988. He also appeared on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in 1989, with “Birthday Suit” reaching number 36, making him two for two in reaching the Top 40 in his only two chart appearances.

“Just Got Paid” was a track from Kemp’s second album, which was titled Secrets of Flying, and “Birthday Suit” came from the film Sing. Kemp did not reach the Hot 100 with any singles from his self-titled debut album, which was released in 1986; however, his single “Just Another Lover” from that album did garner some club and dance play.

In memory of Kemp, “Just Another Lover” is today’s Daily Eighties Flashback.
