Title Title on the Tenth: “Step By Step”
This past month, Tears For Fears shut out the Go-Go’s and Allure featuring Nas to win the “Head Over Heels” title title. For this month’s Title Title on the Tenth, Tunesmate looks back to exactly 25 years ago, when New Kids on the Block were at number one with the biggest hit of their career, “Step By Step.”
New Kids on the Block’s “Step By Step” is one of five songs with that title to reach Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. In 1960, the Crests scores the second-biggest hit of their career when their song titled “Step By Step” climbed to number 14. Fast-forward more than a decade later, and Joe Simon’s song titled “Step By Step” became the sixth of his eight Top 40 hits as it peaked at number 37. Move forward to the 1980s, and Eddie Rabbitt reached number 5 with his song titled “Step By Step” — the second biggest hit of his career. Then, after New Kids on the Block reached number one with their “Step By Step” in 1990, Whitney Houston scored the 24th of her 29 Top 40 hits with her song titled “Step By Step” in 1997.
