Alone At The Top
The biggest hit of Seattle-based band Heart’s career moved into the top spot on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart exactly 25 years ago today, as “Alone” hit number one for the first week of a three-week stay. As the first single released off Heart’s Bad Animals album, by hitting number one, “Alone” picked up from the success of the band’s last album, Heart. That album scored four top ten hits, including their first number one single, “These Dreams,” which spent one week at the top in March 1986. From Bad Animals Heart followed “Alone” with a second top ten hit–“Who Will You Run To,” which peaked at number seven later in 1987.
In all, that meant a run in which six of seven Heart singles cracked the top ten within about two and a half years, which was by far the biggest period of success for a band that had been hitting the top 40 regularly since the mid-1970s and would continue to do so for a few years into the 1990s.
Heart’s most recent studio album, Red Velvet Car, was released in 2010, and the band, still led by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, is currently on tour in the United States. Check out their official website for more information.
