American Idol becomes Bandstand
Ken Tucker at Entertainment Weekly thinks with the recent departure of Ellen, the firing of Kara Dioguardi and Simon Cowell retiring, American Idol should throw in the towel. I actually think the show should just become the next American Bandstand.
Eliminate the judges all together and just have the contestants compete week to week with just America voting. This way you don’t have to worry about the judges and every week you get see what people want, the performances. Then American Idol can be solely hosted by Ryan Seacrest and he can introduce and interview each contestant which virtually becomes the next American Bandstand.
Could American Idol survive without judges?

I think American Idol is headed for a swift decline. I have watched or even paid attention beyond things I just happen to overhear in several years now. This idea may be a good one. Of course, would this mean we’d be seeing Seacrest hosting new versions of $10,000/$25,000 Pyramid (changed for inflation to $100,000 Pyramid or something) and alongside Andy Richter or somebody on an updated TV Bloopers and Practical Jokes? After all, a Seacrest-hosted AB would mean he’s just taking over that much more for Dick Clark … while also taking over for Casey Kasem, of course.
