Annie Lennox & Al Green

Exactly 25 years ago, Annie Lennox and Al Green peaked at number 9 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart with their remake of the Jackie DeShannon tune “Put A Little Love In Your Heart,” which came from the Bill Murray Christmas film Scrooged.

For Green, who hit the top 10 seven times in the early 1970s, “Put A Little Love In Your Heart” was his first top 10 hit in more than 14 years.  For Lennox, who had hit the top 10 three times with Eurythmics in the mid-1980s, it was her first top 10 single outside of the band.  Neither artist, though, has been back to the Top 10 on the Hot 100 since, though Lennox came close in 1992 when “Walking On Broken Glass” peaked at number 14.
