Birthday of the Week: Babyface
This week’s Birthday of the Week honors musician, songwriter, and producer Kenny Edmonds, whom you probably recognize by his stage name, Babyface. Between 1989 and 2001, Babyface hit the Top 40 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart eleven times, with five of those songs reaching the Top 10. Meanwhile, he has written and produced songs for numerous artists, including Whitney Houston, Boyz II Men, Madonna, Eric Clapton, and others. On Wednesday (April 10), Babyface turns 60.
In honor of Babyface’s milestone, what’s your favorite Babyface song? If we consider songs he’s produced as well as songs he’s performed, I’d pick Eric Clapton’s “Change the World.” If, though, we’re going just with songs Babyface has performed, I’d probably go with “When I Can See You,” which also happens to be his biggest hit; however, if I get to stretch things a little bit and count his performances as a member of The Deele, then, no question, my favorite is “Two Occasions.”
