Color Me Number One
What was the biggest hit in the career of vocal group Color Me Badd?
If you said “I Wanna Sex You Up,” you may be right from a most-remembered-song standpoint. It was the group’s first single and first hit, and it was a big hit, spending four weeks at number 2 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart in the summer of 1991. (Paula Abdul’s “Rush Rush” kept it from ascending to the top.) However, the runner-up chart performance of “I Wanna Sex You Up” actually makes it the third-highest charting single by Color Me Badd. Second highest is “All 4 Love,” which spent a week at number 1 in January 1992. Their biggest hit came between these two songs, as exactly 20 years ago today, “I Adore Mi Amor” rose to the top for the first week of a two-week run.
While Color Me Badd would not maintain the initial success of these three hits, they did hit the top 40 an additional six times between 1992 and 1996. The group officially disbanded in 2000.
