For his 1982 Dream Maker album, Conway Twitty recorded a version of “The Rose,” which had been a Top 5 hit on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart for Bette Midler in 1980. Exactly 40 years ago, Twitty’s version topped the Hot Country Singles chart for one week.
