Following their split with Grandmaster Flash, Grandmaster Melle Mel and the Furious Five released a self-titled album in 1984. Follow that album’s release, on this date that year, one of its singles, “We Don’t Work For Free,” climbed to a peak position of number 51 on Billboard‘s R&B singles chart.
