DEF: Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston “It Isn’t, It Wasn’t, It Ain’t Never Gonna Be”
Yesterday’s Daily Eighties Flashback marked the 35th anniversary of Whitney Houston‘s first single to appear on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, the duet “Hold Me” with Teddy Pendergrass, just missing the Top 40 by peaking at number 46. It would be another five years and eleven songs before Houston failed to reach the Top 40 again, and interestingly enough, that next song was also a duet with another established artist that just missed the Top 40, this time by the slimmest of margins. Exactly 30 years ago, the duet “It Isn’t, It Wasn’t, It Ain’t Never Gonna Be” by Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston climbed to a peak position of number 41. Today, “It Isn’t, It Wasn’t, It Ain’t Never Gonna Be” is the Daily Eighties Flashback.
