DEF: Ben E. King “Stand By Me”
In 1961, North Carolina-born singer/songwriter Ben E. King scored the biggest hit of his career when his song “Stand By Me” reached number 4 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. Twenty-five years later, after being featured in the film by the same name, the song was re-released, and it hit the Top 10 once again, this time peaking at number 9. On this date in 1986, the re-released “Stand By Me” reached that peak position, where it would spend three weeks. Today, King’s lone single to hit the Hot 100 in the 1980s is the Daily Eighties Flashback.
