DEF: Boris Grebenshikov “Radio Silence”
Considered one of the founders of Russian rock, Boris Grebenshikov was part of the music underground in the Soviet Union in the 1970s and 1980s. Following political and economic changes in the U.S.S.R. in the late 1980s, Grebenshikov released the album Radio Silence on Columbia Records in 1989. The song’s title track gained traction in the United States, and though it didn’t make Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, exactly 30 years ago, it climbed to a peak position of number 7 on the alternative chart, then known as the Modern Rock Tracks chart. To commemorate that anniversary, “Radio Silence” by Boris Grebenshikov is today’s Daily Eighties Flashback.
